Vega Whyte Ladie Tenor Banjo
Vega Whyte Ladie Style R 19 fret tenor banjo made by A.C. Fair banks in the 1920’s. I recently setup this banjo and it plays and sounds terrific, a real solid work horse perfect for solo or group performance with plenty of cutting power and sustain.
Banjo features
All metal is nickel plated in good condition, The banjo was recently fitted with a 10-15/16″ smooth white head, and what give this banjo punch is the Vega Whyte Ladie tone ring which sits on a scalloped base on the rim. The rim is made from 1/2″ maple ply with 28 brackets and flanges, 19 fret ivoroid-bound ebony fingerboard with a mixture of pearl dot inlays (star inlay at 5th fret and floral inlay at first fret). The tailpiece is a standard Presto style.
The resonator side walls are decorated in dark red tortoise shell ivoroid and maple bound pie-section to rear. The resonator shows wear at the bottom with dings and scratches but otherwise no structural damage or repairs.
“VEGA” logo and fancy pearl inlays on headstock, geared tuners stamped “Grover PAT. PEND.” with ivoroid buttons, 1-3/8″ nut width, ~23-1/8″ scale length. The neck is straight and original finish in good condition. The action is low and plays beautifully up the fret board. It has been well looked after for over its life time, as shown in the photos. The banjo comes with original vintage case in good condition.
