A beautiful example of the professional line of Vega tenor banjos. This banjo has been kept in first class condition and was professionally played until recent by Hamburg jazz player Horst Pantel. I have sold a few banjos over the past year or so owned by Horst and I have to say he treats them with high respect and tender care. The supplied photographs show the condition of this banjo which is remarkable and of course I have given the banjo a fresh polish and Trad setup as it had been previously set up for jazz playing. Lets take a look at the fine details…..
Banjo details
Made in Boston, Mass. serial #69694 which dates the banjo to 1924. The banjo is mostly original apart from the upgraded ABM (German made) geared gold plated tuners and Richelieu gold plated tailpiece. The custom gold plated flange plates descend from CID, located in Gebr. Schuster, Markneukirchen. The resonator side walls are decorated in dark red tortoise shell ivoroid with engraved gold filled design and maple bound pie-section to rear. All metal is gold plated in excellent condition, including the shoes, hooks, nuts, flange plates etc. The rim is made from 1/2″ maple ply with fancy wood marquetry edge cap, 28 brackets and flange plates, 19 fret ivoroid-bound ebony fingerboard with fancy pearl floral inlays, Vega armrest, fancy pearl inlays on headstock, 30mm nut width and 23″ scale length. The neck is straight and plays beautifully up the fret board with good frets. It has been very well cared for over its life time, so why not own a classic banjo which stands out from other banjos on the Trad Scene. The banjo comes with original vintage case with green lining & Vega star cloth logo inside, which is in good condition. I fitted the banjo with Elixir bronze Phos strings 12, 17, 24, 34.
